Elden Ring PC Stutter - Freeze Fix (CPU 0 Affinity Workaround)

Elden Ring on PC can suffer from severe intermittent stutters or short hard freezes, even on high-end systems with stable FPS.

These freezes often feel random, are not tied to GPU or CPU usage spikes, and may temporarily stop if a USB device (controller,

headset, etc.) is unplugged.

This issue is especially common on modern Intel CPUs (12th/13th gen) and Windows 11.

Symptoms

- Sudden stutters or freezes lasting ~0. 5–3 seconds or more

- FPS counter remains high and stable

- Game instantly unfreezes when unplugging any USB device

- Happens regardless of graphics settings

- No thermal throttling, no hardware bottleneck

- Clean OS installs and driver updates do not resolve it

Root Cause (Likely)

Windows treats CPU Core 0 differently from other cores. It handles:

- USB and HID interrupts

- Input polling

- Kernel and driver housekeeping

- Deferred Procedure Calls (DPCs)

Elden Ring requires CPU 0 during startup, but during gameplay its threads perform poorly when scheduled on CPU 0.

When gameplay threads are pre-empted by interrupts on CPU 0, the game experiences hard stalls that feel like device-related freezes.

  What This Mod Does

  This mod provides two simple `.bat` launchers that:

  • []Launch Elden Ring normally (offline or with Easy Anti-Cheat)

    []Wait for the game to fully initialize.

    []Automatically remove CPU 0 from the game's CPU affinity

    No game files are modified. No memory is edited. No anti-cheat behavior is altered.

    How the Scripts Work
