📦 Install Methods

1. Vortex (easiest)

  1. Install Vortex from nexusmods.com (Nexus Mods' mod manager) and sign in with your Nexus account.
  2. Open Vortex and add Elden Ring under Games — it auto-detects the Steam install (Steam app 1245620).
  3. Let Vortex install the Elden Ring extension and Mod Engine 2 when prompted; the Elden Ring extension needs Mod Engine 2 present to deploy mods.
  4. On the mod's Nexus page click "Mod Manager Download", then install and enable the mod in Vortex.
  5. Run "Deploy Mods" so Vortex writes the mod into the folder Mod Engine 2 reads (its mod directory).
  6. Launch the game with the "ModEngine 2" tool in Vortex's dashboard (with Steam running) — not the Steam Play button.
  7. Note: mods packaged as loose files for Mod Engine 2 install cleanly this way; big overhaul mods may still need a manual install.

2. Manual with Mod Engine 2 (most common)

  1. Download the latest Mod Engine 2 release zip from github.com/soulsmods/ModEngine2/releases — pick the top win64 build, not the source code.
  2. Extract the zip to a folder of your choice; it contains launchmod_eldenring.bat, modengine2_launcher.exe, and config_eldenring.toml.
  3. Extract your mod's archive and place its contents inside the `mod` folder next to modengine2_launcher.exe (create the folder if it isn't there).
  4. Open config_eldenring.toml in a text editor and add your mod to the mods list, e.g. { enabled = true, name = "MyMod", path = "mod\\myMod" }, then save.
  5. Launch Steam once so its services are running, then double-click launchmod_eldenring.bat to start the game with your mods.
  6. To disable a mod, set its enabled = false in config_eldenring.toml or delete its folder from `mod`.

3. Seamless Co-op (co-op mod)

  1. Download "Elden Ring Seamless Co-op" by LukeYui from Nexus Mods (eldenring mods/510).
  2. Extract the archive into your game's Game folder (Steam\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game) next to eldenring.exe.
  3. Launch the game with the Seamless Co-op launcher (ersc_launcher.exe) in the Game folder — launching from Steam loads vanilla and skips the mod.
  4. To run it alongside other mods, load everything through Mod Engine 2 so every player shares identical files.
  5. Every player must run the same Seamless Co-op version and enter the same co-op password (set in its config file).
  6. In-game, the host creates a session and friends join it; your co-op character saves separately from your vanilla save.
  7. Note that Easy Anti-Cheat is bypassed while Seamless Co-op is installed, so normal FromSoftware online play is unavailable — that's expected.
