Afghanistan Campaign part 2 - Blood in the streets [Mission]

The suburbs have fallen, but the war does not stop. U. S. troops continue to advance, their armored vehicles rolling through roads that are not safe paths—just a maze of concrete and debris. The city rises before them like a fortress of ruins and smoke, its interior a gloomy mixture of traps and fire. The insurgents have taken their position. You're not here to win. They are here because there is no other place left. They are fighting not out of hope, but because it is all that remains. The City Gate is their last bastion, built with everything available—metal, rubble, improvised defenses to stand up to an overpowering force. The battle for the city is not an orderly war. The streets devour everything that moves in them. Every meter is a new battlefield, every corner a new threat. The smoke from the last explosion still hangs in the air, mixed with the metallic smell of blood and burnt steel. Something explodes in the distance, the pressure hurls dust and debris through the air. A soldier instinctively ducks behind a wall while a machine gun nest shoots at him. Bullets hit the facades, pieces of wall break out, the ground around him is torn open. He exhales. "What a beautiful day," he murmurs dryly, while the dust envelops him like a shroud.
