📋 About This Mod

Parameterized Content is the Dungeon Siege term for treasure. This map sells treasure.

Overview

This is a small region full of vendors. They sell ordinary, magic, rare, and unique items, everything from dirt rags to S-Tier artifacts from the end of Elite.

Installation

The map works with vanilla Dungeon Siege. It has some custom resources and an LoA add-on, so in the game's installation directory,

  • []pcontentmart-resource.dsres goes in the \Resources\ subfolder

[]pcontentmart-map.dsmap goes in the \Maps\ subfolder

[]pcontentmart-DSLOA.dsres goes in the \DSLOA\ subfolder if you have it

    Details

There are 19 stores selling gear of ascending quality. I researched the numeric power ranges for all gear, and the stores make random treasure rolls in a segment along a polynomial curve that is shaped differently for each kind of item, emulating blacksmiths, containers, and monsters found in the campaign maps.

These stores do not exceed what you can legitimately find. Internally, DS usually has the reverse problem: the developers made a number of high pcontent calls that exceed what can be generated (fail) or create bizarre items. I did my best to limit these calls without killing the species entirely. The top 2 stores carry things that many would consider unnatural and disturbing.

There is a DSX vendor with assorted weirdness, bulk potions, and all the spells are for sale.

Also, there are a couple of urns selling inadvertently "unused content." As usual, game development got rushed at the end, and there are something like 300 armors, gloves, boots, and weapons that the pcontent system cannot land on properly. A lot of them have unique icons and appearances. Very sad. So I just forced the calls on them and put them all up for sale. I narrowed the problem down, I think, to the way these forbidden pieces are mostly subtypes of pieces that do not allow magic modifiers. So unfortunately, they cannot legitimately be given random mods by the system, even though it was probably intended that the stronger types be blue. But they are there if you want to make yourself look cool.

    • []An example would be "Mage Leather," a tan suit with black pads that you might have found in the Crypts in the beginning or seen for sale in Stonebridge. There are three more powerful versions of this armor that can never be found. There are 7 powered-up Boiled Leather Greaves, 6 Kite Shields, 7 Brigandine Gauntlets, and scores-upon-scores of other pieces. Check them out.

      More notes

      1. When the player is in a town region, the game has several hundred objects loaded in nearby stores. PContentMart generates about 5000 items every time it is loaded, which is the most I had the guts to demand of the game engine even in . I had no issues when building this place, but just be aware that the loading and unloading screens, making a savegame inside PContentMart, or hosting multiplayer clients there, will all involve packaging an insane item database.

      2. If you want to buy something worth 10 million gold, you will need a siegelet that uncaps the amount of gold the party can carry. All "Priceless" items become purchasable then. I uploaded one of these already with DS Vet & Elite Modes in Single Player, as a 2kB standalone resource. The inventory overhauls hosted here also do it.

      3. Also on that mod's page are my instructions on how to export and import the full single player party around in your games, which may be useful with this map. Sadowson uploaded the Siege Editor to nexus, which needs to be installed (but you do not have to run it).

      4. Overusing a facility like this will eclipse the loot you earn by conquest. Much of the jewelry, especially, is very, very rare. Be prudent!
