1936 Auto Union Type C

Classic pre-WW2 Grand Prix open wheeler. I wanted to learn some basic 3d modelling and also was quite interested in learning about the early ages of Grand Prix races, so decided to combine it in this little project. Turned out to be quite a challenge. Never suspected that suspension technologies used in those years were so difficult to set up. The real life car had swing axle suspension at the rear which combined with the mid-to-rear mounted engine rendered the car very difficult to handle. It was terminally oversteery. Well, I'm glad I managed to achieve some realism at least here: my car is terrible to drive too. lol. It will try to kill you. Every second. It oversteers all the time, even when going in a straight line. Every slightest tap on throttle will cause minor rear wheelslip at any speed - and that is enough for it to start veering to the side. It is terribly overpowered, so forget about going into turns full-throttle. The only way to handle it is to constantly correct it with the steering wheel and using short throttle taps in corners to keep the car in a slight drift but without overdoing it. Oh yeah, and the brakes are close to non-existant. The stopping distance is the same as of a freight train. So plan your braking zones miles ahead. Some historical memo: there were four Auto Union GP racing car models developed: models A through D. The Model C was the last one to have a large displacement engine and after that the rules changed towards having smaller and less powerfull engines. So the engine on this thing was a mighty 6 liter 16 cylinder superchared 520 HP monster. The car weight was 850 kg empty (up to 1200 kg gross). As stated before, it was terrible to drive but had immense acceleration which helped it to keep up with its main rival - Mercedes Benz's cars. The German duo of teams dominated the sport in 1930s.
