📋 About This Mod
As everybody knows, the majority of staves used by mages everywhere are made of wood. Heck some of them even look like fallen branches! So why were they all classed as metal?
This simple mod changes every staff, except the Corrupted Magister's Staff (RtO) and The Dragon's Call (Awakening) which state in their description they are made of metal, to use a Wood material type. This does have a side effect of very slightly increasing both the range and armor penetration of a mage's staff.
This will not change any staves currently equipped or in your inventory, you will need to use the additem console command. It does however work perfectly with a new game.
Change log v1. 1: Added Sketch's Split-Shaft in Leliana's Song.
v1. 0: Changed most staves from metal to wood. Upgraded Sylvan's Mercy from Tier 4 (Veridium) to Tier 6 (Sylvanwood) to match the item description. Changed model variation of the Awakening Darkspawn Staff to match it's Origins counterpart.
Installation (Main File)
Extract the Wood Mage Staff folder to your override folder, usually: Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override
Installation (Optional File) Extract the erf file to your override folder, usually: Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override
Full credit for the optional file must go to TommyIrianto for creating the amazing Grey Wardens of Ferelden mod. All I am doing is bringing the staff from that mod into line with my own mod, which was more something I did for myself but decided to share it with everyone due to the popularity of GWoF.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 104 endorsements and over 15k downloads.
- Simple, focused change that gives staves a more grounded, natural look.
- Covers all major content including Awakening and DLC.
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects mage staves, not other weapon types.
- No preview images or detailed description, so you can't see the result before installing.
- Compatibility risk with other mods that alter staff textures or models.
For Dragon Age: Origins players who want a more rustic, wood-themed aesthetic for their mage staves without changing gameplay. If you're a completionist who likes visual consistency across all DLC, this is a quick win. Skip if you're looking for new staff models or gameplay tweaks—this is purely cosmetic.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this is a texture replacer, make sure to place it in your override folder (Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/packages/core/override) for it to work.
- If you use other texture mods for staves, load this one last to ensure it takes priority.
- No need to start a new game—the change applies to existing saves.
