A Cousland Always Does Their Duty

Dragon Age: Origins' strength is in its convincing writing, based on real, believable emotions. Each origin tells a personal story, but in my opinion, the story of the noble Cousland is the most dramatic. It's important to me, thus I have a great privilege in trying to expand it even more.

Some more reflections:

The Human Noble's recruitment is shocking - betrayed by the closest family friend, seeing your home burn, and being forced to leave your parents behind, despite an understandable desire to stay back and fight. Not having the time to come to terms with all of it, we are thrown into shoes of a Grey Warden, travelling with Duncan to Ostagar, far in the south. Throughout the journey, we may think that our whole family is gone, including our older brother, Fergus.

It's a beautiful moment (if the player survives the game's events) when we see Fergus again - our only family that's left. Things have changed, the old home is no more, but reuniting with the lost brother feels like not everything was lost. It's powerful and touching, to know that after all the fighting our character went through, there are such moments in the end - makes you know it was worth to fight.

The mod adds a lore-friendly conclusion to the story of the Cousland family. What exactly it does:

The custom lines are in English only, unvoiced, but they use FaceFX and animations. I made sure the vanilla lines are displayed in each supported language though.

About the unvoiced lines - when I was testing the mod, Inon Zur's Epilogue music spoke instead. The beautiful melody that reminds one it was worth to fight, worth to see the light after having gone through the sea of darkness. And to remember that family is important for a Cousland - and duty, for A Cousland Always Does Their Duty. I admit, when I was listening to the Epilogue theme in the background, I was moved by the moment,  considering how emotional the Human Noble story is. Honour, duty, loyalty - they win in the end, principles that give strength, mightier than an ogre's grip or a coward's betrayal.
