📋 About This Mod

Description

A collection of modular edits to change the targeting beam color, animations and visual filters of the possession power. The original purpose of this mod was to make something to approximate the look and feel of possession from Dishonored one which are listed here as the "Lore-Accurate" options.

However, changing the color proved quite difficult due to the many files and filters at play so while playing around with all of those I got some very nice looking color variations that I also share here.

Installation instructions

1. Download the all-in-one package.

2. Extract the folder, then install the version of your choice with Void Installer.

Main features

Each of the color edits includes a hand-tweaked approximation of the 'entrance' effects used in Dishonored 1, where yellowish green and red veins pop up for a single second as to simulate your eyes adjusting to the retinas of the host.  Additionally, the targeting particles around the head of the host were recolored to white to look more like the black/white swirl from Dishonored 1.

The variations are divided in to three sections Animation swaps color and visuals.

Only use ONE (1) file from each category!

Animation Swaps

The animations for Possession in Dishonored 2 are fairly basic compared to Dishonored 1. In Dishonored 1 Corvo does a creepy motion with his fingers while channeling a dark energy in the palm of his hand.  In Dishonored 2, Corvo just sticks up his hand while channelling the spell which doesn't capture the vibe of taking away someone's free will.

While I can't replicate this dark effect with the current tools, Emily's Shadow walk has an idle animation that captures the creepy feel from the original game, whereas her doppelganger power has a channel animation that approximates the creepy finger animations corvo does while channeling possession.

The following files swap the vanilla possession animation to a combination of those two animations to capture the creepy/evil feel of the original possession.

Lore-Accurate - Loop + Idle

Replaces the normal possession idle animation with Emily's shadow walk idle and the possession channel animation with the channel animation from Emily's Doppelganger power.

Cast-Loop Only

Replaces the possession channel animation with the channel animation from Emily's Doppelganger power.

Replaces the normal possession idle animation with Emily's shadow walk idle

Color options

Lore-Accurate (Smoke)

I tried to make the targeting particles pitch black like in Dishonored 1, sadly the darker I made the color adjust in Void Explorer, the more opaque the targeting particles became since the game uses an additive model for the colors wherin black provides no light and white provides the maximum amount of light.

So the closes thing I got was using a very dark blue for the head particles and a dark grey color for the particles.

I think this best captures the feeling of the Dishonored 1 Possession power while also staying within the restraints the game set.

Eldritch

Teal targeting beam and particles, because nothing says the void like some cosmic horror-like colors.

Demonic

A blood-red targeting beam and particles to reflect the amoral aspects of the possession power.

Guidance

A matted yellow targeting beam and particles closely resembling the glow of Corvo's mark from dishonored 1.

Ice

A light blue targeting beam and particles to enact some of those shivers down the host's spine.

Miasma

A sickly greenish yellow targeting beam and particles which looks like a toned down version of the vanilla color.
