Custom Demonstrators

Details

This mod provides you a settings GUI to configure demonstrator locomotives and/or garage rewards. Demonstrators and garage spawns can either replace vanilla ones or be added in addition to them. Garages can spawn a consist of arbitrary length while demonstrators are limited to two cars. Up to 13 additional demonstrators are allowed by default (for a total of 19, filling up the available space in the museum), with an optional override to add more beyond that. Demonstrators and garages added beyond the default slots will need to have their track location selected by hand in-game. For example, in testing I used the tutorial shed as two extra slots for some smaller locomotives.

Demonstrator posters can be manually overridden to player-supplied images if the mod author does not provide one. See the DemonstratorPosters folder within this mod's installation for details on how to provide one.

Valid selections for demonstrators must meet the following criteria (enforced by the settings UI):

• []They have an associated license (custom or piggybacking on a vanilla one both work)[/]

  []They have no more than one locomotive unit and optionally one secondary car/tender (articulated locomotives that use multiple locomotives in a consist won't work)[/]

  []They are not selected as a replacement for any other demonstrator or garage spawn[/]

  []Custom cargo configuration for the parts order (if specified) must be carryable by the utility flatcar[/]

Valid replacements for the utility flatcar must meet the following criteria:

• []Can carry all vanilla parts cargoes[/]

  []If custom cargo is selected for a locomotive's parts, it must be able to carry that cargo as well[/]

If you load an existing save file with this mod, it will disable its functionality if the save file's garage/demonstrator settings do not match your currently configured settings.

The mod settings will display buttons to either apply the mod's current settings to the save, or update the mod's settings to match the save. Applying settings to an existing save will cause the following to happen:

Demonstrators

Any demonstrators that are not restored and are overridden to a new locomotive will be deleted. New wrecks will be randomly spawned for the overrides. Any demonstrators that are not restored but change to a different slot will remain in the world. Any demonstrators that are fully restored (painting not required) but have their slot removed will be kept in the world and owned by your player but will no longer be summonable via the comms radio, and will be permanently deleted if cleared. Any in-progress parts orders and cargo will be reset.

Unlocked garages will spawn their new overridden consist at the garage. If the consist is too large for the garage, it may be moved down the tracks to fit. Any garage vehicles that have been removed from their garages will persist in the world but will not be summonable via the comms radio, and will be permanently deleted if cleared. Any garage vehicles that remain within their garage will be deleted to make space for the replacement spawn.
