DSR Save Manager is a lightweight save backup and restore tool for the Steam version of Dark Souls Remastered. It runs as a standalone desktop app — no installation required, just download and run.

Dark Souls Remastered saves to a single file (DRAKS0005.sl2) that constantly overwrites itself. There are no save slots, no manual save option, and no rollback. Lost souls, broken weapons, accidental NPC kills, and ruined questlines are permanent. This tool gives you a safety net.

How to Use

Download DSR-Save-Manager.exe from the files tab

Run it — no installation needed

On first launch, point it at your DSR save folder. It is usually located at: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsRemastered\SteamID\

Click Backup Now before any risky fight, boss attempt, or questline decision

If something goes wrong, select the backup from the list and click Restore Selected

READ THIS — Anti-Cheat Warning

Dark Souls Remastered uses Easy Anti-Cheat for online play. Restoring an older save and then playing online — especially in PvP — can land you in the soft-ban pool where you only match with other banned players. This is permanent.

To stay safe:

Always close the game completely before backing up or restoring

Only restore saves when playing offline

Do not restore saves before joining invasions or co-op sessions

This tool does not modify save file contents. It only copies files. But EAC can still flag accounts that play online with rolled-back saves.

Antivirus False Positive

Some antivirus tools and Nexus's automated scanner flag this file. This is a known false positive caused by PyInstaller, the tool used to package Python programs into a single exe. The full source code is available on GitHub so you can read exactly what it does, or build the exe yourself if you prefer. Link is in the posts section.

Windows 10 or 11

No other requirements — Python is bundled inside the exe
