📋 About This Mod
Since my mods list had grown so large (currently 146), troubleshooting became time-consuming, and I often lost track of the mod I was trying to manipulate. So I made this via Python. Although I am a total beginner at coding, I've been using this tool for a few months with zero problems so far.
This tool only edits Mods.json. If DFU’s Mod Manager is updated in the future, this will be completely unnecessary.
Vortex users: Vortex unpack LoadOrderEditor.exe into "DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets".
LoadOrderEditor.exe can be launched from anywhere.
When launched, it will automatically search for Mods.json in the following order:
1 Same path as itself
2 "PortableAppdata/Mods/GameData/"
3 "../../PortableAppdata/Mods/GameData/"
4 OS user folder: "AppData/LocalLow/Daggerfall Workshop/Daggerfall Unity/Mods/GameData/"
So if your DFU is a portable setup, recommended locations are:
- Same path as DaggerfallUnity.exe or Mods.json
- "DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets"
If auto-search failed, you can drag & drop any Mods.json file onto the window to open it.
When saving, the previous Mods.json is automatically backed up as Mods-bkupXXX.json.
Click the X to enable/disable a mod.
Drag, Shift, and Ctrl can be used to select multiple rows.
Middle-click to Mark/Unmark rows (persistent bookmarks).
Quick Save stores your changes in a separate slot without modifying the active file. Useful for preserving the current state before testing.
Click the number of selected items (in blue) to clear the current selection.
Notes
Filter settings do not affect the data saved to Mods.json (e.g., even if sorted alphabetically, only the correct internal values are written).
If you want to get an active mods list: "Active Only" --> "Select All" --> "Copy Info"
If this tool somehow destroys your Mods.json, simply open the Mods menu in-game and save again—DFU will create a new clean file.
* You can save while DFU is running without issues, but DFU will not load the updated Mods.json until you literally restart the game (the in-game restart button is not enough).
Uninstall
No registry usage — Just delete LoadOrderEditor.exe.
The tool stores backup and setting files in "/Mods/GameData/".
If you press the "Purification" button, all unnecessary files created by this tool will be removed.
