📋 About This Mod

If you’ve ever wanted portraits to breathe, blink, react, or change based on dialogue, this framework makes it possible!

Dynamic Portraits is a modular framework that upgrades the talk window portraits in Daggerfall Unity to support animation, emotional states, and conditional overrides, all using simple file naming conventions.

NOTE:

If you're using Harmony .dfmod for use with other mods, make sure to use the 2. 4. 2. 1 Version alongside the provided 0Harmony.dll from this mod until I figure out how to convert this mod to work with Harmony .dfmod

Dynamic Portraits is a framework, not a content pack.

This mod does not add new art or portraits on its own!

You’ll need to provide your own portrait textures

or use mods made to support it (such as Weeberfall: Pixel Waifu Renaissance - Definitive Edition).

Instead, it enables modders to create dynamic assets that respond to in-game events, using a flexible system of naming tags.

Core Features

  • []Animated Portrait Support

Load and loop multiple PNG frames for any vanilla or custom portrait using a consistent filename-0.png, filename-1.png, etc. format.Reaction-Based Overrides

Support for special reaction portraits (e.g., the NPC will react if it approves or disapproves the tone you use with them). These automatically override the default portrait temporarily and can be accompanied by matching audio and overlay images.Mood & Reputation Awareness

Portraits can reflect three reputation mood states toward the player; friendly, neutral, or angry. Camera-Aware Behavior

A “lower mode” triggers alternate portrait states depending on the player’s camera angle and NPC distance, giving additional immersion when speaking to characters close-up or below eye level. This is made specifically for our Weeberfall: Pixel Waifu Renaissance - Definitive Edition where we have now implemented some suggestive portraits when standing close to a character and looking down. Previously called the "My Eyes Are Up Here" patch. Could also be used to "inspect" items an NPC is carrying, like an animal, a bowl of food our a bottle of alchohol!Overlay & Audio Integration

Supports both temporary animated overlays and ambient sound effects (e.g., laughter, sighs) linked to portrait reactions with support for the multiple mood states![/]

How does it function?

When the TalkWindow is activated, the mod will scan certain conditions and display the correct . PNGs/play the correct sounds related to those conditions.

I will be using the portrait name "TFAC00I0. RCI_10-0.png" to explain the system. <
