📋 About This Mod
This mod alters a couple of hair material properties to help Anti-Aliasing blend the dithering in the hair better. It is specifically intended for those who disable TAA and try to use FXAA in its place, but it may reduce blockiness in hair
This mod is an INI file that contains the following settings:
AlbedoMultiplier = 2. 000000
RoughnessFactor = 0. 100000
This has the effect of making it easier for the subpixel AA in FXAA to blend the dithering in the hair, and thus helps make the hair look less horrible when TAA is turned off and the player is using something like ReShade to inject FXAA. Those using FXAA will still want to jack up the subpixel AA to maximum to get the best blending possible, and adding something like CMAA2 or SMAA will also help (I add both right after FXAA in ReShade followed by CAS to try to reduce the blurriness of the FXAA).
For those who don't understand what dithering I'm talking about, look up DitherTemporalAA (this is what it's called in Unreal Engine 4 and 5). This is a material property for transparent meshes in modern game engines (some may use different names for it) that allows them to be rendered as a dithered pattern, basically a series of 100% opaque squares with 100% transparent space between them, which is then blended with Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) to make it look like normal transparency. From what I've read on the Unreal Engine forums this is used as a cheap trick to improve frametime consistency when the player pans the camera around in a game, although there do appear to be other reasons why game developers use this horrible technique for doing transparencies in games (it's also a cheap workaround for issues with layering more than one transparency on top of each other).
I haven't tested this mod thoroughly yet, and I can't guarantee that it's compatible with every hair style and/or color.
Note that this mod may make hair appear slightly lighter in color.
Install via a mod manager, or extract the contents of the 7z archive to your Cyberpunk 2077 folder.
Uninstall via your mod manager, or delete the file named GT_Tweaked_Dithering_for_Hair.ini in the following location in your Cyberpunk 2077 folder:
.\engine\config\platform\pc
It should work with most other mods, however it may be incompatible with mods that alter material properties for hair (such as mjehsan's "Better Hair Material" mod).
