📋 About This Mod

Tweaks the level scaling for attribute checks that was introduced with 2.0 and makes it a little less punishing especially for all-rounder characters.Compatible with 2.1.

Overview

Patch 2. 0 introduced level scaling for attribute checks, while I don't fundamentally disagree with this design choice, I felt that the scaling was too brutal on characters that spread out their attributes instead of focusing them into just one or two attributes.

The mod lowers the ceiling for attribute checks, without it a hard check above character level 40 will be 20, the same as an impossible check, with the mod installed this is lowered to 15.

Difficulty scaling in Vanilla:

lvl:1  lvl:40

none            3       3

easy            4      10

medium          5      15

hard            6      20

impossible     20      20

Difficulty scaling with the mod installed:

lvl:1  lvl:40

none            3       3

easy            4       4

medium          5       9

hard            6      15

impossible     20      20

I honestly didn't want to spend ages figuring out the perfect curve, so I just based the limits off the perk-tree milestone values.

I added an alternative file in the misc section that lowers all attribute checks to 1. Use at your own discretion, be it for roleplaying purposes, because you love to open doors, or just cause you're frustrated that the devs didn't give you an alternative way to deal with a particular dumpster on your 3 body netrunner, I'm not going to judge.

Installation

Install with a mod manager like Vortex or MO2.

Known Bugs

Installing or Uninstalling the mod can cause some checks to retain their values. This is caused by the game itself and nothing I can fix. Just make sure not to install or uninstall the mod right when you encounter an attribute check, but make or load a savegame a little earlier.

Compatibility & Technical Details

The mod only changes values in base/gameplay/curves/statcurves/player/attributes/attribute_checks.curveset

and should be compatible with any other mod that doesn't do exactly the same thing.

Alternatives

Attribute Checks De-Scaled this mod completely removes scaling and locks the difficulty to fixed values.

Balanced Attribute Checks uses different curve settings and offers a few different versions, I had already made my mod by the time I discovered this one.
