Somebody once told me

reputation doesn't come free.

You must have skin in the game,

if you are to glean any fame!

So I devised a device,

just to scan my own skin.

Carefully I crafted, until it looked real nice

Then I shoved it into this game.

I'm really not sure if that's what they meant.

I made this really cool 3D scanner from two microscope cameras offset at 90° from one another with LED ring lights,

which empowered me to make cool custom normal maps from pretty much anything I could get my hands on.

For whatever reason, I decided to scan my own flesh... and well... here we are. Custom skin microdetails.

10% gross, 50% cool as hell, 100% totally radical. Don't worry about the math, it makes sense.

What even are microdetails, you might be wondering? They're little textures that get tiled across the whole model,

to give it detail up close. Cyberpunk uses these sorts of things in their whole special multi-layered material setup.

The closer you get to something, the more it's texture gets filled in with smaller details that help conserve

rendering resources so that you don't just have massive 8k scans of everything.

Big textures for the coarse details, microdetails for the small details.

So, it would've been nice if I could have just tossed my higher-resolution scans in and called it a day there...

but the skin material just didn't look right. So, I tweaked and I tuned until it did.

F e a t u r e s :

- Organic home-grown microdetail textures, available in 2k and 1k resolution!

- Not actually girls-only. Affects all flesh-having entities! The title was too good to pass up.

- Subsurface scattering that more accurately reflects skin depth and preserves tone

- Improved normal map filtering, to really make those details pop

- Tons of other tweaks and changes :)
