AWOW: Vanilla History Overrides (VHO)

and

AWOW: Vanilla Male Source Overrides (VMSO)

are optional add-on mods for A World of Women CORE. VHO converts all history characters into females at the beginning of a campaign. VMSO attempts to reduce the number of new men generated by vanilla events during gameplay. You can use either addon separately or combine them.

AWOW: Vanilla History Overrides (VHO)

VHO changes the campaign's starting population. It replaces CK3's vanilla character history files with converted versions in which historical characters are all female.

This gives you a female starting world immediately instead of waiting for CORE's culling to remove the initial men.

The compatibility cost is somewhat big. VHO replaces the vanilla starting character database, so it will not be compatible with mods or overhauls that add, remove, or modify the characters present at game start. If another mod changes history, VHO cannot preserve those changes.

VHO affects the starting world only. It does not prevent CK3 from generating new men during gameplay.

AWOW: Vanilla Male Source Overrides (VMSO)

VMSO is what happens when you try to solve an engine-level problem by manually attacking nearly every script that causes it.

It overrides almost every vanilla event and scripted source I could find that explicitly generates a male. It took me longer to create than any other AWOW utility, and it was an absurd amount of work for an incomplete result.

Even after all that work, testing still produced approximately 50 new men every month from automatically generated commanders. Preventing those commanders from appearing would interfere with the military staffing CK3 expects and begin breaking normal gameplay.

After setting those commanders aside, CK3 still generated approximately 10 additional men every month as spouses for previously unimportant characters who inherited land, received a succession, or otherwise rose to power.

VMSO is also a compatibility disaster. Because it replaces an enormous number of vanilla events and scripted objects, it is likely incompatible with most substantial mods. It cannot affect custom male-generating events from other mods unless those files are manually rewritten too.

The honest verdict: as a solution that promises to stop new men from appearing, VMSO is completely useless. It reduces the number, but it cannot complete the job. It was the most time-consuming AWOW component to build and ultimately proved that script overrides were the wrong approach. Like holy shit, it was such a waste of time.

Use VMSO only if you cannot use UFG, accept heavy incompatibility, and do not mind male characters continuing to slip through until the next culling gets rid of them.
