The Killing Ground, 1985

"It was complicated to do, but a Flash information request from the Commander Northern Fleet cut through most of the bureaucracy. One of the two real-time-capable Soviet reconnaissance satellites burned a quarter of its manouvering fuel to alter its orbit and came low over Iceland two hours later. Minutes later, the last Soviet RORSAT was launched south from the Baikonor Kosmodrome, and its first revolution took it within radar range of Iceland. Four hours after Andreyev's message, the Russians had a clear picture of what was arrayed at Iceland. The Air Force had an E-3 Sentry operating out of Sondrestrom to protect the fleet, and four of their own E-2C Hawkeyes were also up. Two Aegis cruisers were with the carriers, and a third with the amphibious force. The entire operation had been planned with the likelihood of a Russian air-to-surface missile attack in mind. There would be more vampires." Heavily inspired by Tom Clancy's infamous Red Storm Rising, this scenario attempts to simulate the Soviet part of the operation depicted in Chapter 40, with some tweaks and changes to improve gameplay. Due to time limitations it has been minimally playtested, but, while it may not be the most in-depth scenario, with a runtime of 24 hours and multiple large surface groups available, it should still be a fun playthrough. This was originally intended to be followed up by a Sea Power mission depicting the surface action, but due to limitations in that game's mission editor, it will be made at a later time and then linked here.
