ETG USN CVBG vs Soviet Bombers ~1991

EMERGING THREATS GROUP Welcome to the ETG; you’ve seen this scenario demonstrated on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf3Sp3JUW7Q&t=1s Do you think that you can do better? Well, here’s is your chance! --------------- 01 September 1991 ETG Test: ~1991 US Navy CVBG vs USSR Bombers: US Navy (USN) ~1991 Carrier Battle Group (CVBG) vs Soviet Backfires, Badgers, and Bears Date Time Group: 01/0600Z/SEP1991 Location: North-East Atlantic. Aim: To test how a Gulf War era USN CVBG fares against a USSR bomber raid, consisting of Tu-22M Backfires, Tu-16 Badgers, and Tu-95 Bears. In this variation of the scenario, the USN will only have limited air assets airborne available to defeat the incoming attack. The simulates the US having poor intelligence and/or the Soviets using successful deception tactics. In this hypothetical war, the USSR has overrun the northern part of Norway and many of the airbases there. However, Iceland remains in NATO’s hands. --------------- ~1991 US Forces: Joint CVBG Ships: X2 Nimitz Class CVNs (CVN-69 & 71) X1 USS Missouri X2 Ticonderoga CGs X1 USS Long Beach X1 Leahy Class CG X1 Arleigh Burke Flight I DDG X2 Spruance DDGs X1 Kidd DDG X2 Oliver Hazard Perry FFGs X2 Knox FFGs X2 AOE Fast Combat Support Ships ----- Joint CVBG Aircraft: X10 E-2C Hawkeyes X36 F-14B Tomcats X12 F-14A Tomcats X48 F/A-18C Hornets X12 F/A-18A Hornets X24 A-6E Intruders X6 KA-6D Intruders X12 EA-6B Prowlers X6 S-3B Vikings X2 C-2A Greyhounds X12 SH-60B Seahawks X6 SH-60F Ocean Hawks X6 SH-3H Sea Kings X11 SH-2F Seasprites X4 RQ-2A Pioneers ----- Iceland based Aircraft: X16 F-15C Eagles X6 KC-135R Stratotankers X4 E-3B Sentry AWACS --------------- ~1991 Soviet Forces: Soviet Aircraft: X32 Tu-22M-3 Backfire Cs X32 Tu-22M-2 Backfire Bs X8 Tu-16K-10-26P Badger C Mods X8 Tu-26K-26PM Badger G Mods X8 Tu-16P Badger Js X8 Tu-16P Badger Ls X4 Tu-22MR Backfire Cs X4 Tu-95K-22 Bear Gs X4 Tu-95RT Bear Ds X8 Il-78M Midas tankers X4 3MS-2 Bison B tankers X1
