CLIMB MOUNT NARODNAIA This series of scenarios is meant to simulate a Soviet invasion of Japan, after a joint Japanese-Korean-American fleet exercise is seen by the Soviets as a preparation for an attack against the motherland. These scenarios are not meant to be overly realistic, but instead are designed to mirror a campaign by the same name in Wargame: Red Dragon, with a few twists, edits, and additional content to make the missions more enjoyable and challenging. Have fun! Having failed to achieve a complete victory and surrender of Japan before the Americans' arrival, the Soviets have chosen to shore up their forces and brace for the impact. All will be won or lost following the outcome of this battle- an American victory here would entail the destruction of the remainder of the Union's Pacific fleets, including three flagships and hundreds of aircraft. To make matters worse, Soviet satellites have detected several dozen transport and landing ships assembling in Iwo Jima and Okinawa; the Americans, emboldened by such a victory, are showing that they are prepared to not only reinforce their ground forces in Kyushu, but may stage a counter invasion of their own against the Soviets. The beaten and tired Soviet army units will not be able to hold their own for long under the full weight of an American invasion, and a victory at sea would give the enemy air superiority as well- something the Soviets have been benefiting from until now. In Washington, tensions are extremely high. The strength and value of the American pledge of protection has come into question both in NATO and throughout the UN, as a foreign aggressor has taken control of all but the southern-most island of Japan and only now has a sizeable American response been in position to retaliate. The American point of view of a possible Soviet victory would be catastrophic at worst, and extremely embarrassing and damaging at best.
