CLIMB MOUNT NARODNAIA This series of scenarios is meant to simulate a Soviet invasion of Japan, after a joint Japanese-Korean-American fleet exercise is seen by the Soviets as a preparation for an attack against the motherland. These scenarios are not meant to be overly realistic, but instead are designed to mirror a campaign by the same name in Wargame: Red Dragon, with a few twists, edits, and additional content to make the missions more enjoyable and challenging. Fresh Soviet airborne and naval infantry divisions, mechanized with BMP and BMD APC’s, airborne and amphibious tanks, self-propelled artillery, and reinforced with other heavy equipment and Army support, have punched a wide hole deep into the Japanese lines. The ensuing mass-surrenders, loss of life and equipment, and savage demoralization seen by the beaten JSDF troops was akin to that of the German Army in Bagration some 45 years prior. Victory was close at hand, and the JSDF would not hold out another couple of days before capitulation. What meager resistance remained in the air was soon to be dealt with. A shadow of the once powerful JASDF remained in operation. Struggling for fuel, aircraft, spare parts, and trained pilots, the Japanese airmen could do little but draw blood in their country’s name before their inevitable doom. Iwakuni air base is the next major Japanese airfield in Firebrand’s objectives list, and here Soviet leadership saw the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. The previous risky maneuvers pulled in the war had put the Union in the extremely favorable position they were in, and another such stunt was in the making; punching a hole through the remaining JASDF airspace to drop a regiment of paratroopers a few miles behind Iwakuni, in order to capture the airfield quickly and turn it over intact for the Reds.
