After 'The Fire', November 1962. Hunting Soviet stragglers in the Central Pacific. In our own history, a routine U-2 Reconissance flight flew over Cuba on October 14th, 1962. This flight discovered the first nuclear MRBMs on the island, launching the Cuban Missile Crisis. Of course, the crisis did not ultimately lead to war. However, it was such a dangerous situation that nuclear war very nearly did occur. What if that first U-2 Flight had been delayed a week by heavy cloud cover over Cuba? Note: This scenario is based on the events of the alternate history book "When Angels Wept: A What-If History of the Cuban Missile Crisis" by Eric G. Swedin.
