📋 About This Mod
So a big sore spot for Civ VII has been the loss of the artdefs has meant no reuse of existing units in a consistent way, we can't make new improvements as they show no content, same for buildings, and all Wonders just show a fallback Pyramids model. I've made a webapp that does let us add this content, or reuse existing content. THE BIG CATCH is that sadly this is not possible to do in a way that's easily distributable on the steam workshop or for users. The game only scans for art in its own files, so to add art content, you have to have a folder placed in your DLC folder. This is a big pain but something I can't get around. I am sure when Firaxis adds art tools, they will change this, but until then we are a bit stuck. Maybe if lots of mods start to use this process, Firaxis would see the value in adding this? I can't see why it would be so painful to scan another folder for art, maybe its a security thing? The attached python project is both the source code for it, for those security conscious, and an executable for those who are okay with that. This project is WIP, but there are parts that are totally done, and will be useful for modders: What is working: Building remap that works in VisualRemaps. Building remap to any other building. Shows for every player, correct culture/pillage state/construct state Same for Improvements Same for Wonders, including wonder sound Same for Units Reuse of existing 3d models with all the animations etc, but with a different material.
