📋 About This Mod
According to experts, the cuirass and simple helmets were first found in tombs in the fourth century, which is when Japanese armor first made an appearance. The distinctive Japanese samurai armor known as "-yoroi" and "d-maru" first debuted during the Heian period (794-1185). With the addition of leather straps (nerigawa) and lacquer for weatherproofing, the Japanese cuirass evolved into the more well-known kind of body armor used by the samurai known as the dou or d. Samurai armors were also made of leather or iron scales, and the individual rankings (kozane) of these cuirasses were connected by leather and later silk lace. Japan started conducting business with Europe in the sixteenth century, a period known as the Nanban trade. Matchlock muskets were imported for the first time, and as they were mass-produced locally, samurai need lighter, more defensive armor. As a result, a brand-new kind of armor known as tosei-gusoku (gusoku), or modern armor, emerged. Samurai continued to wear lamellar and plate armor as a status symbol when a united Japan entered the tranquil
Edo period.
