📋 About This Mod

Combine weapon and spell with this take on the classic spellsword. Use your magic to imbue your weapons and shield your allies. Manipulate fate, transform into beasts, or wield knightly necromantic magic. Based on homebrew by Benjamin

Part of the July 2025 Modathon

Spellswords. Gishes. It's a well-trod road with many different stabs at it – enough that I'm aware BG3 already has more than a few "Magus" Classes, specifically! This class should technically be compatible with most of them, if you ever want to try a Magus / Magus / Magus multiclass.

This one is based on Benjamin Huffman's Magus, ported with permission. Unlike standard martials, Magi don't get Extra Attack; instead each subclass has access to their own weapon cantrips and their own spell lists, letting them mix between weapons and whatever magic they have. All Magi can also use their spell slots to Smite their foes, and they can use their Mystic Marks to either enchant their weaponry or place magical shields around their allies. These Mystic Marks can be sacrificed after use, to force foes back, reflect damage... the exact effect depends on subclass.

Join one of the following different Eldritch Societies and decide your playstyle:

  • []The Arcane Order are a loose, scholarly organisation with a wizardly approach to magic. Their casting stat is Intelligence.[/]

[]The Heaven's Guard are a secretive group able to divert damage from allies and bolster their defenses. Their casting stat is Wisdom.[/]

[]The Knights Stygian wield necromantic magic to safeguard the innocent and terrorise their enemies. Their casting stat is Charisma.[/]

[]The Primordial Seal watch over the old magics keeping the Elemental Realms from intruding on this one. Their casting stat is Charisma.[/]

[]The Sidereal Cabal nudge dice and manipulate fate, interceding at opportune moments in history. Their casting stat is Intelligence.[/]

[]The Sylvan Circle combine Druidic magic and swordplay to protect nature in a way a Druid could not. Their casting stat is Wisdom.[/]

As ever, if you like any of my mods and want to show some extra support, I've set up a tip jar here:

New cantrips

The Magus introduces the following new cantrips, though each are only available to specific subclasses. Although many use weapon attacks, these cantrips do not work with Extra Attack, but as spells do trigger features like War Magic. Magi that get Booming Blade get a special version of it that works similarly.

Any dice mentioned increase in number at character levels 5, 10, and 17, like most cantrips.

  • []Arcing Arrow: Make a ranged weapon attack. If you miss, the attack is redirected to your nearest other enemy; if that attack hits, they take your Spellcasting Ability in Lightning damage instead of the weapon's usual damage. At 5th level or higher, this attack deals additional Lightning damage to whichever foe it hits.[/]

  • []Bloodletting Bite: Make a ranged or melee weapon attack. If the foe is at half their health or lower, your attack will deal an additional 1d12 damage.[/]

  • []Death Shroud: Lay a curse on a creature within 18m. The next time you deal damage to it with an attack, it takes an additional 2d4 damage. This boost increases by 2d4 whenever your cantrips increase in damage through character level.[/]

  • []Misfortune's Mark: Make a melee weapon attack. If it hits, whenever the creature successfully makes an attack roll or saving throw before your next turn, you can use your reaction to impose a d4 penalty. At 5th level or higher, your initial attack deals additional Force damage.[/]

  • []Rime Strike: Make a ranged weapon attack. If it hits, the target's movement speed is halved. At 5th level or higher, your attack deals additional Cold damage.[/]

  • []Righteous Incitement: Make a melee weapon attack. If you hit, the target must hit you back with an attack before the end of their next turn, or else take 1d6 Radiant damage. At 5th level or higher, your initial attack deals additional Radiant damage.[/]

  • []Spell-Shattering Strike: Make a melee weapon attack. If the target is concentrating, your attack deals an extra d8 Force damage. At 5th level or higher, this attack deals additional Force damage regardless of the foe's concentration.[/]

[*]Vortex Dart: Make a ranged weapon attack. All creatures within 5 m of the target that are not Huge or larger are pulled towards them. At 5th level or higher, your initial attack deals additional Force damage.[/
