Concentration Overhaul Mod

What it does

In the base game your character can maintain only one Concentration spell at a time. Cast a second one and the first ends — which means a support caster spends most of a fight choosing which single buff to keep.

This mod takes Concentration away from every spell that places an effect on a creature. They become ordinary spells: you can run as many as you like at the same time, they no longer replace one another, and damage no longer ends them.

Affected — Bless, Guidance, Resistance, Shield of Faith, Spirit Guardians, Hold Person, Hex, Faerie Fire, Protection from Evil and Good, Blur, Haste, Enhance Ability and everything else of that kind.

Not affected — Entangle, Darkness, Silence, Fog Cloud, Flaming Sphere, Moonbeam, Wall of Fire, Cloud of Daggers and the rest of the area and summon spells. These keep Concentration with everything that belongs to it: one at a time, a saving throw when you take damage, and the X below your portrait to end them.

Why area spells are left alone

For a buff, Concentration holds an effect on a creature. For an area or summon spell it holds a patch of ground or a creature it conjured. Take Concentration away from those and the game loses its grip on them entirely — the vines or the sphere would sit there with nothing left to end them. So they stay as they are.

Use Vortex / Mod Manager

Drop ConcentrationOverhaul2.pak into your Mods folder

Then enable it in Vortex or BG3 Mod Manager and export the load order. Nothing else to configure. To uninstall, delete the file — the game returns to normal. Safe to add to a running playthrough.

Compatibility

Spell mods work fine alongside this. The mod only ever changes the game's own spells, and it does so by a fixed list. Spells added by other mods are never touched.

Those spells also do not benefit. If a spell pack adds its own version of a buff and it requires Concentration, it will keep requiring it. Things can look inconsistent — vanilla Bless is free while a modded equivalent is not. And because a modded Concentration spell still uses the game's Concentration slot, it will still displace your Entangle.

What does conflict: any mod that reworks Concentration itself, or that relies on those vanilla spells still requiring it. Another mod doing the same thing as this one is harmless — the change simply happens once instead of twice.

What this changes about the game

Worth knowing before you install:

  []Recasting no longer moves a spell. Cast Guidance on yourself and then on a companion and both of them keep it.[/]

  []Enemy spellcasters get the same treatment. Encounters become harder as well as easier.[/]

  If you want Concentration to still be a meaningful cost, this mod is not for you.

  A note on this version

  This is a rewritten, much lighter mod than it used to be. Earlier versions tried to manage those spells with their own penalty system, a dedicated ability and custom tooltips. That machinery is gone. What remains is a "no more concentration lite" mod: it removes Concentration where it does not need to be, and then stays out of the way.
