📋 About This Mod
A necromantic Monk subclass built around unarmed combat, harvesting fallen enemies, and commanding evolving undead Left and Right Hand companions.
Way of the Hand of Death
A necromantic Monk subclass for Baldur’s Gate 3 built around unarmed combat, harvesting the fallen, and fighting beside two evolving undead companions.
The Way of the Hand of Death turns the Monk into a close-range necromantic warrior who earns their undead servants directly through combat.
You do not simply cast a summon spell.
You kill with your own hands.
When an enemy falls to one of your unarmed attacks, Death's Grasp allows you to spend Ki and your reaction to raise one of two undead companions: the brutal Left Hand — Flesh or the ranged Right Hand — Bone.
As your Monk grows stronger, the Hands evolve alongside you.
Your Monk remains the center of the build. The undead are support, weapons, and eventually expendable sources of necrotic destruction.
Core Gameplay Loop
Unarmed attack → kill enemy → Death's Grasp → raise a Hand → fight beside your undead → sacrifice or lose the Hand → Death Throes → earn another Hand through combat.
The subclass is designed around aggressive Monk gameplay rather than passive summoning.
You must personally earn replacements.
Kills from your summons, unrelated spells, environmental effects, or Death Throes do not generate another Hand.
Death's Grasp
Unlocked at Monk Level 3
When the Monk personally kills an eligible enemy with an Unarmed Strike, you can spend:
1 Ki + Reaction
to raise one of your Hands from the fallen enemy.
You choose:
Left Hand — Flesh
Right Hand — Bone
The fallen creature acts as the trigger and summon location, but the Hand does not copy that enemy's appearance or abilities.
You may maintain:
1 Left Hand + 1 Right Hand
for a maximum of two Hand of Death companions.
If you summon a Hand that is already active, the existing Hand of that type is replaced.
Unarmed attacks that can trigger Death's Grasp include:
-
[]Standard Unarmed Strikes [/]
[]Martial Arts bonus-action attacks [/]
[]Flurry of Blows [/]
[]Extra unarmed attacks [/]
[]Unarmed Stunning Strike [/]
Left Hand — Flesh
The Left Hand is your melee-focused undead companion.
Its role is to stay close to enemies, absorb pressure, and support the Monk in close combat.
Monk Levels 3–6
Monk Levels 7–10
Greater Zombie
Monk Level 11+
Flesh Golem
Zombie → Greater Zombie → Flesh Golem
The implementation uses existing BG3 creature assets with custom subclass behavior and statistics.
Right Hand — Bone
The Right Hand is your ranged and caster-oriented undead companion.
It provides magical and ranged pressure while the Monk and Left Hand engage enemies at closer range.
Monk Levels 3–6
Skeleton Mage
Monk Levels 7–10
Reconstituted Arcanist
Monk Level 11+
Fallen Wizard
Skeleton Mage → Reconstituted Arcanist → Fallen Wizard
Together, the two Hands are intended to give the subclass a small undead strike team without replacing the Monk as the primary combatant.
Manifestation of Death
Unlocked at Monk Level 6
Your melee unarmed attacks gain additional necrotic damage:
1d4 + Wisdom Modifier Necrotic
This damage is added directly to your unarmed offense.
If the necrotic damage from Manifestation of Death delivers the final damage of the attack, that kill is intended to remain eligible for Death's Grasp.
Death Throes
Unlocked at Monk Level 9
The Hands are not only companions.
They are also weapons.
When either Hand suffers a killing blow within range, the Monk can spend:
1 Ki + Reaction
to detonate the fallen Hand in a burst of necrotic energy.
3d6 Necrotic Damage
3 m radius
Targets receive a Dexterity saving throw for half damage.
Be careful with positioning:
Allies can be caught in the explosion.
Enemies killed by Death Throes do not trigger Death's Grasp.
Command Death Throes
Sometimes waiting for a Hand to die is inefficient.
Starting at Level 9, the Monk can deliberately sacrifice one of their living Hands.
1 Ki + Bonus Action
Select the Left or Right Hand and destroy it immediately, triggering its Death Throes explosion at its current position.
This can turn a badly damaged summon into one
