Shovel Evolved

A major overhaul to Shovel the Cheeky Quasit. She now levels with you, gains unique Illusion and Enchantment spells, and has her own progression. I always use Shovel in my runs from when I get her in the beginning all the way to the portal on the big bad at the end. This is my way of making her a full companion.

Be aware, this mod essentially adds another companion to the party. Consider Shovel a bonus hireling that likes eating babies instead of a summon while using this mod.

Note

This is a beefy mod. If you install it, I assume you read or at least understood the changes it makes to different parts of the game.

Level. A major change to Shovel is her ability to be at the same level as the person who summoned her. If you're level 10 when you summon her, so will she. This is important because she has her own progression/class, so her level determines what abilities are unlocked or what her stats are like.

📜 Summoning spell is bound to an item. Just like Scratch or Us, the holder of a new item given to you upon first summoning Shovel will add the spell to summon Shovel. This means anyone with the item can summon Shovel. No need to respec into Wizard. This even works if you're a Storm Sorcerer.

😈 Shapechanger: Quasits are tiny fiends from the Abyss that can Shapechange into either a bat, toad, centipede or a wolf. I've incorporated that feature into Shovel. My personal lore behind why she's the only Quasit that can Shapechange in Baldur's Gate 3 is that her exposure to Illy's Necrotic magic or even being so close to the Necromancy of Thay allowed her to learn unnatural abilities that other Quasits don't possess. Every once in a while, a creature would find its way to her in the cellar. She absorbed the knowledge from their corpses and learned to turn into them.

🦇 Deep Bat

These bats are native to the Underdark and sometimes used as familiars by Drow wizards. Very likely that a bat would fly up and through the well to Shovel's cellar. It can use Echolocation to possibly reveal hidden enemies and learns 3 of the 5 beams used by the Spectator.

🐸 Cave Frog

There is one known frog in the swamp, but this one lurked in the caves under the well. Through a small crack on a wall, it found its way to the blacksmith's basement in Moonhaven, then wandered too far to Shovel. The Cave Frog shape excels in support by using a number of control abilities such as compulsion, hypnosis or even spitting a toxin that heals targets but may make them hallucinate.
