I am not a modder, a developer, or a programmer. I am a QA, to be honest.

I do not know what got into me this Friday, but after reaching the choice to become half-illithid, I had an idea for a mod. I really hesitated to transform my character just to unlock the new powers, because I cared about how my character looked and how immersive that choice felt.

This mod might look simple to some people, but it took me an entire weekend of working through files, testing, breaking things, fixing things, and studying how other modders had approached similar ideas.

I am honestly pretty proud of what I managed to create, and I hope you enjoy it too.

What this mod does

When you accept the half-illithid transformation, you gain a new Bonus Action power that lets you toggle your half-illithid form on or off.

The goal is simple: make the half-illithid transformation feel more immersive.

Powers and passives that you could already acquire before becoming half-illithid remain usable as normal. The new advanced half-illithid powers are only usable when your half-illithid form is active.

Activating or hiding the form costs a Bonus Action. It is a small cost, but it makes the choice feel more grounded.

You want the power? You reveal the transformation.

You want to keep your normal appearance? You give up access to the stronger powers.

Immersion. Hehe.

Blocked powers while hidden

While your half-illithid form is hidden, the following advanced illithid powers are unavailable:

- Fracture Psyche

- Fracture Psyche: Recast

- Black Hole

- Black Hole: Recast

- Mind Sanctuary

- Mind Blast

- Absorb Intellect

- Psionic Dominance

I did not block every passive. Some of them felt more logical to keep active, even while the form is hidden.

Visual behavior

The toggle uses the Disguise Self animation mixed with darker illithid VFX, so switching forms feels more fitting than a normal disguise effect.

The full half-illithid form is also slightly more intense than vanilla.

Another feature I am really proud of is the subtle combat visual.

When your half-illithid form is hidden and you enter combat or turn-based mode, your character automatically shifts into a more subtle half-illithid appearance. You still get visible veins and dark eyes, but the veins are much closer to your skin tone instead of the full half-illithid l
