5rdnd2024 Spell cast rule

The following casting actions will

not

• []Casting spells but haven't consume a Spell Slot (such as cantrip, free cast’s spells).[/]

• []Using scrolls.[/]
  • []Some action consume a Spell Slot but isn't a spell (such as Divine Smite in 5e, or a sorcerer's conversion of spell points).[/]
    

    This restriction will disappear

    at 

    the end of your turn.

    So it will not affect your spells which can be casted out of your turn. such as Counterspell.

    Similarly, prioritizing out-of-turn spells will not affect your spell casting during your turn.

    Why do I need it? Wouldn't removing the restrictions offer more freedom?

    This rule will effectively reduce a character's burst damage in a single turn, lengthening the battle duration. Combat will require more tactical thinking. You won't be easily killed by a spellcaster enemy's burst damage just because of some mods that add action resources to enemies.

    • []It will increases the value of spells which don't consume SpellSolt, scrolls, and magical items with limited uses.[/]

    • []Spells with long durations but requiring concentration will become more useful due to the longer battles. [/]

    • []The effectiveness of defense will also become apparent with longer battles.[/]

      Sometimes, reasonable restrictions can actually enrich the gameplay, that‘s why I bring it back.

      For players who want to cast multiple spells within a turn again, I've added a Feat from the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Guide.
