📋 About This Mod

What does this mod do?

  • []Gives officers (agiles) swords, mostly for the aesthetic and authenticity.

[]Gives officers pistols which they will use just like Captains.

    []Makes officers resist combos.

Essentially the Agiles are now weaker variants of Captains, as I'd expect an officer to be, I genuinely appreciate this change. If I could, I'd give em an officer's rapier instead of the cutlass.

Installation For Anvil Toolkit (if you use multiple mods)

A. With Other Mods

  • []Here is an excellent tutorial with pictures if you're unfamiliar with the Anvil Toolkit This site also contains a lot of useful documentation for basic use of the toolkit.

[]In the game's directory, unpack your DataPC.forge file with the Anvil Toolkit

[]Extract  the DataPC.forge folder from this mod and place merge it with the extracted folder

    B. Without Other Mods

Simply copy and overwrite the original DataPC.forge file.
Note: Make backups of any files you overwrite. On Steam you may "validate game files". Otherwise mistakes or issues require you to reinstall the game.

    Why?

I know the agile archetype is typically given a dagger, but the animation makes it look as though they fence, they're able to parry attacks, and they counter unarmed, so it only makes sense to give them a proper weapon. If I knew how, I'd give them the officer's dueling rapier that Kenway starts the game with, but I have no idea how to do that.

    How?

If you're wondering how I did this, I don't really know. I could only gather context clues from other mods and the old online hex editing guide.

To try this out yourself, look at AC games and open use the Anvil Toolkit to decompress and extract the DataPC.forge archive. Then go to file 51 "Game Bootstrap Settings" and decompile again with the Anvil Toolkit. In AC4, the 'AI Enemy Archetypes' are there (soldier, agile, brute, etc.) Then decompile one of those 'Tagrule' files. You'll have an XML with lots of numbers in each node. These seem to be binary values converted to decimal that have been hardcoded. You can mess around by swapping values, removing them, adding values from other files and other AC games then test it out and see what happens.

If I had the time and patience, I could use a debugger and trace the values from archetype 'tagrule xml' files decompiled by the Anvil Toolkit and messing with t

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since this is a simple weapon swap mod, make sure to place the file in the correct game directory (e.g., Data folder) or use a mod manager if the game supports it.
  • Check if the mod requires a new save or if it works with existing saves – if unsure, test on a backup save first.
  • If the game has a mod loader, ensure this mod is loaded after any other mods that affect officer equipment to avoid conflicts.
