Nomad's Tardis

Description

Ever wanted your own pocket dimension without the whole "steal a police box" backstory? TARDIS Door adds a placeable door that teleports you into a full-size hidden room built somewhere out of the way underground. It's not a fake wall or a camera trick — you're actually teleported there and back, the same way the game's own /teleport command works. Build the room out, make it home, and it'll still be there next time.  This was a project for my personal solo playthrough, so it's probably not balanced well.  I figured I'd share it anyway.

Installation instructions

• []Download and extract the mod.[/]

  []Drop the NomadTardisDoor folder into your Mods folder.[/]

  []Launch with EAC disabled.[/]

Done, the recipe unlocks automatically once you hit the right perk rank, nothing else to configure.

Main features

• []Place a TARDIS Door (a real vanilla iron door, tinted deep blue) and activate it to step into a hidden room built far underground, safely out of anyone's way.[/]

  []A red exit door inside sends you back to wherever you were standing when you walked in.[/]

  []Rooms are zombie-proof, always, not just while you're standing in them.[/]

  []Optional: Write a name on a nearby sign before you enter, and that name becomes the room's permanent identity instead of the door's position. Destroy the door, build a new one somewhere else, slap a sign with the same name on it, and you're back in the same room. Real "the box moves, the room doesn't" behavior.[/]

  []This isn't something you'll have handed to you on day one, it's locked behind Advanced Engineering rank 4 and built almost entirely from other crafted gear (tools, a car battery, a generator bank) rather than just raw resources, so getting there means actually working through a chunk of the tech tree first.[/]

This is the first mod I've ever published.  I would like to thank all the modders (and there are so many) who continue to contribute to this game that most of us love.  They are an inspiration to me to try to learn more.

Big thanks to Brotteil (https://forums.nexusmods.com/profile/70175958-brotteil/), creator of Mobile Vehicle Interiors, studying how that mod pulls off walkable vehicle interiors is where this whole idea came from. No code from MVI is in this mod; the technique was studied and rebuilt from scratch for a very different use case. Brotteil was kind enough to give this the go-ahead before release.

Also crediting Z0MB1E324 (https://forums.nexusmods.com/profile/194386435-z0mb1e324/), creator of Portals, the idea of linking two things by matching text on a nearby sign (used here for the room-naming/relocation feature) came from studying that mod.  No code was used.  Reached out to give a heads-up and say thanks, and they gave their blessing.
