Paraburnetia sneeubergensis

"A weird little Therapsid. With horns. Paraburnetia is a small, enigmatic animal from the South African Karoo. It is only known from a single skull, so we know absolutely nothing about its postcranial morphology. Its closest relative which we have any useful postcranial material for whatsoever is the distantly related Biarmosuchus, so I based mine off of that taxon. The single skull we have shows a number of bumps and bosses, which I interpreted as supporting keratinous horn-like structures. We don't know for sure if basal Therapsids like Paraburnetia had fur, whiskers, or mobile lips and noses, so I took a chance and put them on anyway (All evidence either for or against this is dubious at best. The only thing I could find that was even remotely relevant was a study on facial innervation in Cynodonts, which hinted that Biarmosuchians may have had enough facial nerves to support muzzles and whiskers. This study was inconclusive, however. As well, the closely related Lende chiweta seems to show large infraorbital foramen, indicating some degree of facial innervation.)" - Acinonyx Jubatus
