A tweaking of Long War for casual players

Like Long War, but find it overly difficult, even on "Normal" setting, and want something a bit easier?

Then try this mod out!

What it does is change a few aspects of the game, mostly relating to money and panic, so things are much easier at the start of the game.

Dont worry, the game will still get difficult, and the "Depth" that is Long War is still intact, its just that the beginning isnt so harsh.

The reason I made this mod is mostly for myself, and it is my first mod for Xcom.

  • This mod is for Long war version 3. 0b15b

  • So you are going to need that first before you install this.

To install, simply download, extract the config folder to your XEW's, XcomGame's config Folder and overwrite everything REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING NOTE: In order for all changes to take a effect, you MUST start a new game! You can continue playing your current game with this installed if you want, but you might encounter bugs and other nasty things, though you shouldn't really. If you do though, dont cry to me about it.

It is likely that it become outdated before long, and there is no guarantee that I will update it when a new version comes out, because im pretty lazy in that way

It SHOULD be working just fine and any bugs that pop up are likely from Long War or the Vanilla game.

But keep in mind, this is my first mod, and its not fully tested. So if I did do something wrong, which I might have, let me know and I might try to fix it, though again, I doubt anything should go wrong.

Here is what I changed, most of which are regarding "Normal" difficulty, though there are some that affected the higher settings.

  • []WAY more starting cash, especially in the USA, about 4500 on "Normal" difficulty, and about 2000 most elsewhere, and upped the amount of cash per month. The logic is that the world would be a little more invested in its survival. "You are our first and last line of defense". Also the USA has the biggest military budget in the world, and that they have dealt with Aliens before (at least semi-canonically I think), so they would likely throw even more cash Xcoms way. But dont worry, you'll run out of cash fairly quickly by the 3rd or 4th month, and Exalt will likely steal some cash away from you at some point. []Lowered Maintenance for some facilities like access lifts []Lowered the maintenance fees for Interceptors and increased the continent bonus for North America []Lowered the repair time for Interceptors []Lowered the Rearm time for Interceptors []Lowered the Price of new Interceptors []Lowered the chances of Satellites being shot down. They might still get shot down, so always have a few in reserve []Increased the Sats a uplink station can support, so you dont need to build so many. You will still need to build more than 2 to get full coverage []Upped the chances an Interceptor can detect a UFO []Increased the cash rewards on Normal difficulty []Increased the sell prices for some items []Lowered the frequency that Thin Men use their acid spit attack, and lowered the rate Aliens use grenades on Normal and Classic. Or at least, I hope I did. []Tweaked the panic rates a bit, so they are more manageable, yet still are of concern, so you still have to watch them. Made Impossible difficulty's Panic levels slightly harder []Increased the number of starting soldiers to 60 []Decreased the price of new SHIVs (Tier 1 SHIVs)

[]Increased the power output of Fission Generators from 8 to 10

  • Made the default heads for all Xcom operatives #18 (Motorcycle Helmet). The reason I did this was to reinforce the fact the Rookies are the "Faceless Redshirts". However, I also did this due to a bug that makes them bald, so upon promotion, the unit will still have the helm. So this should encourage people to personalize the units, so they get an emotional attachment to them.  However, if you want, I have uploaded an alternate file with the default headgear (being none, like in Vanilla) so you dont have to deal with personalizing them as much. Drag and drop that in the config folder and you should be good to go! NOTE: You MUST start a new game for this change to take place!
The "Config" Folder I am referring to is found here by default on my machine.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\Config

That should be mostly everything, th
