X4 memory check

The game is known to increase memory consumption over time which causes slowdowns or crashes for some users.

It is normally not a problem if you are playing for a couple hours, but long gaming sessions suffer a lot from this.

This small script performs a background check every N seconds (configurable) and notifies user that it is time to restart with audio beep if the games RAM usage has crossed a certain threshold (configurable).

Its code is extremely simple, you do not need to know programming to see that it has nothing malicious in it.

There are 2 lines of code you need to change:

1. This sets the amount of RAM in megabytes used by X4 after which you want to get a warning.

rem • X4 memory usage in MB after which you will get a warning beep

set TARGETRAM=13000

Change TARGETRAM=13000 to TARGETRAM=YOUR_DESIRED_RAM_GOAL_WARNING_IN_MEGABYTES

2. This sets interval between checks in seconds.

rem • how often to perform the check in seconds

set INTERVAL=60

Change INTERVAL=60 to INTERVAL=YOUR_DESIRED_DELAY_BETWEEN_CHECKS_IN_SECONDS

Technical details:

A batch file calls "tasklist.exe" in a loop, grabs memory value of X4 process as a string, trims spaces from it, converts it to a number, compares this number to set value, if its greater - calls powershell to perform a beep sound.

This is very very light on system resources, it would not affect your gameplay in any way, cause micro stutters or anything like that.

It should run on any windows system, I do not think it requires to be run as administrator, but I am too lazy to check, feel free to report.
