NAXS - A New Era of Terran Defence

The Xenon threat continued to grow. As their forces gained strength, the Terrans achieved a technological breakthrough. To turn these new discoveries into operational ships and defensive systems, they established the New-Anti-Xenon-Group, or NAXG. Under its leadership, the New-Anti-Xenon-Systems project - NAXS - took shape. Its goal was a new generation of Terran warships and ship technologies that would allow humanity to confront the growing machine threat.

The Terran destroyers had been technological milestones. Yet even milestones grow old. Against the expanding Xenon forces, the fleet needed a new ship capable of standing up to both heavy opponents and their fast escorts. As part of the NAXS project, the NAXG therefore developed the Hervör.

Its design was inspired by the Rattlesnake and adapted to the requirements of Terran fleets. The engineers combined its underlying offensive philosophy with a new generation of Terran defensive technology. With the introduction of Terran Anti-Air-Closed Systems, Terran Anti-Air-Enhanced Systems and Skadi missiles, the Hervör gained an armament with complementary roles: its anti-fighter defences keep fast attackers at bay, while its Skadi launchers support engagements against heavy targets. What began as a new destroyer thus became a platform for testing and deploying the next era of Terran ship systems.

The Hervör demonstrated that the NAXG's new systems could effectively support a versatile destroyer. To engage concentrated Xenon battle formations, however, the Terrans needed a heavier platform for these technologies. Building on the proven Asgard doctrine, the NAXS project produced the Jötunn: a battleship intended to lead the fleet's advance and maintain sustained pressure on enemy capital ships.

Heavy beam weapons form the core of its armament. The NAXG deliberately supplemented them with Skadi missile launchers. While a beam attack requires the entire ship to be aligned, guided missiles can continue tracking a locked target and sustain an attack even during a course change.
