Lost Directed Energy Atomic Deposition (DEAD) Fabrication Technology

The lost research facility includes a few additional surprises. In its databases are plans for the DEAD (Directed Energy Atomic Deposition) fabrication technology developed for use by the terraforming machines. This technology was designed to completely automate the production process, allowing nearly anything to be 3D printed in its completed form.

As we know, this same process was eventually applied to allow the terraforming machines to replicate themselves in deep space, resulting in the dreaded Xenon. However, before that, this technology was first applied to the fabrication of more traditional goods as a proof on concept.

With the rediscovery of this station, you gain access to this streamlined fabrication technology, enabling you to accelerate your path to wealth, and power.

The complete DEAD fabrication process was designed to work like this:

• []Raw materials are gathered and delivered to the fabrication center.

  []Easily distilled and refined materials are separated while the remaining mass is reduced to elemental components through a process that is best described as electron bombardment and high heat (think electrolysis, but for solids.)

  []This individual elements are extracted from this elemental plasma with a centrifuge, condensed, and stored.

  []Complex molecules are produced in batches through processes similar to those used by chemists going back to the 20th century, and cached for application to the finished product.

• Complex assemblies are made through Directed Energy Deposition and more traditional deposition methods familiar to humans going all the way back to the 21st century. Most alloys and silicates are directly 'printed' while more complex molecules are applied through a very similar process, but one that operates on a molecular scale.

Because of the advanced, but fairly simple method for creating finished products, the entire process (excluding raw material acquisition) can be self-contained in a single fabrication facility that minimized the need to produce and assemble intermediate goods.

When you discover, and gain ownership of the Unknown Station (Player HQ), you will gain access to an encyclopedia of Terran station and ship blueprints. From there you can start building a station, and adding DEAD fabrication modules.

This DEAD fabrication process can also be applied to ships, in a method nearly identical to that used by the XENON. With the included ship fabrication facilities you will be able to simply print ships from raw materials.
