📋 About This Mod

Recurring, randomly generated monster contracts on the notice boards of Velen, Novigrad and Skellige. Take the note, track the beast and loot its bounty: a steady, hard-earned income once the story's paying jobs dry up.

Witcher's Work

"Foul Things Lie Near."

Once you've worked through the base game's contracts, honest coin is hard to come by. Witcher's Work keeps notice boards in business: every few days a village posts a new plea for help, and a witcher willing to answer it can earn a living, if he survives the job.

This mod is largely motivated by other mods that intentionally reduce the amount of coin you can get via the ambient world and increase the amount you get from contracts - this just makes it a long-term job. Pairs great with mods that allow you to fine-tune world economy parameters like Lore Friendly Economy

This was also built in large part by my Witcher III modding assistant Claude agent. Any feedback on bugs, weird behaviour or bad implementation practices are welcome!

How it works

  • []Starts after The Nilfgaardian Connection. Finishing that quest starts the clock. There's no contract right away.[/]

[]A new contract every so often. Every 72 in-game hours there's a 33% chance that a new contract is posted on a notice board in the region you're in (Velen and Novigrad, or Skellige). You get one short message and a map pin on the board.[/]

[]Read the note. Take the note titled "Foul Things Lie Near" from the board within 72 in-game hours, or it's taken down.[/]

[]Hunt the beast. Taking the note marks a search area somewhere within 700 m of the board, out in the wilds rather than in town or in the water. Find the monster there and kill it before the 72 hours run out.[/]

[]Loot the bounty. The monster carries the reward on top of its usual loot.[/]

[]Repeat. Whether you finish the job or let it lapse, the contract quietly ends and the wait for the next one begins.[/]

    Danger and pay

Each contract monster is within 5 levels of Geralt, above or below. The bounty is 500 crowns, plus or minus 50 crowns for every level of difference, so a weaker beast pays as little as 250 and a dangerous one as much as 750. Monsters below your level stay below it, even with the game's Enemy Upscaling option on.

The bounty goes through the game's own contract payout before it reaches the monster's pockets, so economy mods that change contract rewards (for example Lore Friendly Economy) apply to these bounties too.

    Regional monsters

Every contract is a single beast that suits the region the board is in:

Velen: griffin, wyvern, forktail, leshen, werewolf, noonwraith, nightwraith, water hag, grave hag, fiend, chort, cockatrice, basilisk, rock troll, armored arachas, venomous arachas, ekimmara, golem, earth elemental

Novigrad: the Velen beasts, plus katakan and gargoyle

Skellige: wyvern, forktail, ancient leshen, lycanthrope, noonwraith, nightwraith, water hag, fiend, cockatrice, ice troll, ice elemental, cyclops

    Quiet by design

    • []The only message you'll see is the one announcing a new contract. Finishing or missing a job is silent.[/]

[]There's no quest-log entry to clutter your journal. The map pin's tooltip always shows the current step and the time left.[/]

      Settings
