📋 About This Mod
The "Automatically apply blade oils" option in the Remastered version doesn't work. This fixes it.
Auto Apply Oils - Fix (Remastered)
Came back to the game for the Remastered update, turned on auto apply oils and... nothing. Oils never got applied, mods or no mods. So I dug into the scripts.
What's going on
In 5. 00 the option was moved from Gameplay to the new Accessibility menu. But the code that loads it when you load a save (CR4Player. OnSpawned) still looks under Gameplay. It finds nothing there, so auto apply gets switched off every single time you load.
If you toggle the option in the menu it works until your next load, which is probably why some people say it works "sometimes".
What the mod does
Re-reads the setting from the right place right before the game checks it. That's it.
-
[]Script only (wrapMethod/addMethod), doesn't replace any vanilla files[/]
[]No Script Merger needed[/]
[]Fine to add or remove mid playthrough[/]
[]Turning the option off still works[/]
[]If CDPR fixes this you can just remove it. Leaving it in won't hurt, it checks both the old and new location[/]
How auto apply works, if you're wondering
-
[]It kicks in when you hit something and your sword doesn't have the right oil on it, so the first hit goes in without oil[/]
[]It picks the best version you have (Superior, then Enhanced, then normal)[/]
[]The oil goes on the sword that fits the enemy, silver for monsters and steel for humans and beasts, even if you're holding the other one[/]
[]It also triggers when you draw your sword with a target locked, and when an oil runs out[/]
Install
Vortex: Mod Manager Download.
Manual: extract into your Witcher 3 folder, you should end up with
The Witcher 3\mods\modAutoApplyOilsFix\content\scripts\local\autoApplyOilsFix.wsThen turn on Options > Accessibility > Automatically apply blade oils.
Uninstall
Delete The Witcher 3\mods\modAutoApplyOilsFix.
Compatibility
Tested on PC, 5. 00c. Should be fine with pretty much everything, unless another mod completely replaces ShouldAutoApplyOil or ShouldAutoApplyOilImmediately in r4Player.ws.
If something's off, let me know in the comments.
