📋 About This Mod
Description
This QoL mod maintains a list of your most recently selected build pieces and hijacks the "Prebuilt Structures" category of the build panel to show those pieces in a compact list (i.e. NOT split by category/group) allowing you to quickly switch between pieces that are relevant to what you are building at the moment. Use the configurable N hotkey to toggle between opening the build panel like normal or always open with the recent build pieces category selected.
At the top of the Scripts/main.lua file you will find a few configurable options for this mod:
max_asset_count (number, default 21)
The maximum number of build pieces that should be shown in the recent list. It shows 3 rows of 7 by default but this mod is pretty lightweight so don't worry about bumping this number.
toggle_open_recent_key (default Key. N) see https://docs.ue4ss.com/lua-api/table-definitions/key.html
toggle_open_recent_modifiers (default {} / none) see https://docs.ue4ss.com/lua-api/table-definitions/modifierkey.html
By default the build panel will open showing your currently selected build piece in its normal category (e.g. "Wall Torch" in "Decorations") but you can use this hotkey to always open the build panel with the recent category selected. Once you've selected all the pieces you need for the structure you are currently building (e.g. floors, walls, roofs and pillars) this will save you the extra click to select the "recent" category every time you switch to another build piece.
change_order_when_selecting_recent (boolean, default false)
A build piece will only be put to the front of the recent list if it's selected from its normal category, selecting it from the recent list will not change the order (if the aforementioned "open recent" option is enabled it might get annoying if the recent list keeps shifting every time). You can set this to true to always put your last selected build piece to the top of the list, regardless it was selected.
log_enabled (boolean, default false)
Enable logging to help troubleshoot issues
Installation instructions
Extract the RecentBuildPieces folder from the zip file into the /ue4ss/Mods folder, it should look like this:
RecentBuildPieces/
enabled.txt
Requirements
This mod requires UE4SS, this version here on nexusmods works well for me:

Shout outs
The ideal version of this mod would add its own category to the build panel and show a MRU hotbar while in build mode, but I have zero experience using UE4SS or making/modding UE games. I had trouble creating R5BuildingUICategory/R5BuildingUIGroup instances so I just hijacked the existing & mostly useless "Prebuilt Structures" category of the build panel. If you know what you're doing and have suggestions I'd appreciate the help, If you make a better version of this mod I'd be happy to add a link to it.
Much love to the UE4SS devs for providing such wonderful modding tools to empower plebs like myself <3.
