VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN Historical Wound Badge System for UBOAT Verwundetenabzeichen adds a functional German Wound Badge progression system for UBOAT officers and the skipper, designed to better align the game's Wound Badge system with historical wartime record keeping. HOW IT WORKS Only qualifying combat wounds caused by an enemy nation count toward the Wound Badge. A qualifying wound occurs when an Officer or the Skipper receives a fresh injury from hostile enemy action that causes the Bleeding status. Regular Sailors do not qualify. If a Sailor is wounded and is later promoted to Officer, those earlier wounds are not counted retroactively. WOUND BADGE PROGRESSION 1-2 qualifying combat wounds: Wound Badge in Black 3-4 qualifying combat wounds: Wound Badge in Silver 5 or more qualifying combat wounds: Wound Badge in Gold AWARD CEREMONY Qualifying wounds are recorded during patrol, but the decoration is not awarded immediately. After returning to port and completing the normal patrol debrief, UBOAT's native decoration system awards the appropriate Wound Badge. The Wound Badge is presented during the game's normal award ceremony alongside other military decorations. Higher grades replace lower grades, so an officer displays only the highest Wound Badge earned. COMBAT WOUND SYSTEM The mod distinguishes between combat and non-combat injuries. A bleeding injury by itself is not enough to qualify. The wound must be connected to hostile action from a nation that UBOAT currently considers an enemy. This means: • Enemy combat wounds count. • Non-combat injuries do not count. • Injuries caused by neutral or friendly nations do not count. • If diplomatic relationships change during a campaign, the mod uses UBOAT's current relationship system rather than a hardcoded list of countries.
