Seakeeping The sea in vanilla UBOAT lies to you. It shows you a storm - and your boat glides through it like the waves were painted on. It reports a fresh breeze - and renders a gale. It lets a wave rattle your depth gauge at 200 metres, where the ocean should be dead silent. And the moment you dive a few metres under a raging storm, the sea simply... switches off. Seakeeping makes the sea honest. Six fixes, each one a place where the game contradicts itself - which means every correction comes straight from the game's own data. Nothing is invented, nothing is tuned to taste. What changes on your boat You finally feel the waves you see. Under the hood, vanilla feeds your hull a crude sketch of the ocean it draws. Restore the water engine's own precision setting, and the boat starts riding every crest and dropping into every trough on your screen. The single biggest change in how the boat feels. Storms follow you down. In vanilla, storm swell dies a few metres below the surface - a raging Atlantic gale and a pond ripple fade out exactly the same. Now long storm waves keep their grip well below the surface, the way real physics works: at periscope depth in heavy weather the boat genuinely rocks, exactly as U-boat crews described it. They dove to 40-60 metres to find calm. Now you will too. Periscope depth is a fight. Vanilla quietly teleports the boat back down every time a wave lifts you. That's gone. Holding periscope depth in a storm is now the struggle the memoirs talk about. The sea matches the forecast. A vanilla unit bug (knots compared against metres per second) makes an ordinary 18-knot breeze render a sea two or three Beaufort levels angrier than reported. Fixed with the exact conversion - the sea you get is the sea the weather report promised. Deep means quiet. No more depth gauge twitching at 200 metres. The deeper you go, the stiller it gets - and bigger storms reach deeper than small ones, just like the real ocean. Time compression stops boiling the sea.
