The low operational cost that was meant to offset the expensive production was turned into a null factor when many airframes were lost in battle (and in "skill issue" incidents), which put MEMENTO Club in financial trouble. Besides, many pilots still liked the old Mb-X67 Jackknife better. Therefore, the Metalburg Bureau went back to that blueprint to design a better replacement. The RCS system was out, and the tilting "Harmonica" voltburner engine was back with added 2D thrust vectoring and differential throttle functions, eliminating the need for gyro-assisted maneuvering during atmospheric flight and keeping energy consumption low and cheap. The new craft, named Mb-X71 Minstrel II in honor of the fabled Mb-07 Minstrel of the heyday of Metalburg's glory, was less expensive to produce and operate than the Morrigan and had flight characteristics more like to the comfortable Jackknife. The MEMENTO Club's trip to Avilon was accompanied by a squadron of the new Minstrels.
