PBY-5A Catalina

The Consolidated PBY Catalina was a twin-engine reconnaissance and bomber aircraft developed for the United States military during World War II. During its service, the Catalina became the work horse of the Navy due to its amphibious capabilities; being sent on rescue, reconnaissance, cargo runs, and bombing missions that heavily impacted the outcome of the war. Some of the aircrafts major contributions include spotting the Bismark while the ship was attempting to evade the Royal Navy and spotting the approaching Imperial Japanese fleet, starting the Battle of Midway.
