TWK-SV-6-Birdstrike

Birdstrike VTOL (TorqueWorks TWR-SV-6) “If it flaps, it slaps.” Originally a failed military tilt-rotor design shelved by an unnamed eastern conglomerate after budgetary issues (read: catastrophic instability), the Birdstrike was discovered gutted and rotting in a scrapyard outside Talon's Spine. TorqueWorks saw potential in the heap—not as a war machine, but as an example. The current version bears almost no resemblance to its original schematic. Overhauled with scavenged lift units, jury-rigged plasma balance thrusters, and a cockpit that emits more EM interference than actual control signals, the Birdstrike operates on a blend of hope, heat sinks, and looped error messages. Due to an "unknown issue" in the hover logic, it tends to violently lose altitude when banking left in VTOL mode. Engineers claim this is a “feature,” not a bug, citing increased pilot awareness and training value. Attempts to fix the code only led to the creation of a failsafe that sets the engine on fire if the pilot insists on holding left too long. Inside, the Birdstrike is a sensory nightmare. Logic blocks blink like a dying Christmas tree, a mechanical eye tracks movement from behind the pilot’s seat (no one knows why), and a constant high-pitched beep echoes through the hull—source unknown. Most TorqueWorks pilots claim the noise eventually becomes comforting. The rest just go deaf. Despite all of this, the Birdstrike is terrifyingly effective. With a high-strength pickup magnet and a profile low enough to skim treetops at speed, it’s the perfect ambush hauler, scavenger, or cargo denial tool. It’s ugly. It’s unpredictable. And it’s probably sentient.
