📋 About This Mod

Global files that modify spawn odds with the intent of being used with Pure Winter's Animal Color Expansion mod. Intended to fit spawn odds in with similar odds to vanilla rares, with no vanilla rare or weight bumps.

ALL CREDIT TO PURE WINTER FOR THE ORIGINAL, AMAZING MOD
Since ACE has not updated in a while but Deca has, I will be testing if the animal models from the mod still work, and updating this mod if they do. This may take me some time to be sure it works as intended. I will also be looking into adding the bobwhite quail fix for diamonds being unable to spawn.
And as my computer permits because Deca likes being a pain on Linux despite being coded on Linux. Uuuuugh.

Originally just a tweak for myself that I worked way too hard learning to byte edit to make, as the title implies this intends to give an experience more inline with vanilla gameplay with the new coat colours. That is, no rare bumps, no weight/diamond/Great One bumps, and new coat colours will spawn at odds comparative with other, vanilla, rares. I know many people want population or rare bumps, but that always felt too cheaty to me personally. If you feel similarly, but like the ACE coat variants, maybe this will help! The idea is to make the new coats feel like an amazing treat you have to work for, similar to grinding for other rares.

At present the mod still adds (low) odds of spawning typically quest-exclusive furs. I have some tentative plans to make versions that do not add this, we'll see what happens.

There are currently two flavours: One that bumps the silver fox ACE overwrites the melanistic fox with, and one that does not. The bumped silver fox is the main version, expect it to be updated more often. The non-silver fox bumped is for those who want to see them at the same rate you'd see the original melanistics. :)

This will also add the render distance increase of 650 meters (around 711 yards) except for birds, but I might consider making a version without for hardware that can't handle it or in general if someone doesn't want it.

How to install:
  • []Install ACE following the directions on its page if you haven't already

[]Download and unzip the VanillaPlus ACE file

[]Drag and drop "dropzone" into your game directory like any other mod

[]Overwrite the global_animal_types.blo and global_animal_types.bl files when it asks

[]Optional, but recommended: Go to your save file stored in Documents\Avalanche Studios\COTW\Saves\ and delete or move your animal population files. Move them somewhere else instead of deleting if you aren't sure about losing your existing animals. Note that if you do not delete them, the common coats overwritten by ACE will make it so there are quite a few more than intended rares on your map, but if you're okay with this, feel free to skip this step, as new animals will populate in with the new odds as you harvest them.

†If you're on Linux (PC or Steam Deck), your saves should be in home/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/518790/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Avalanche Studios/COTW/Saves/. Directions are otherwise the same!

The new odds for the coats added by ACE are:
  • []38 (lowest vanilla rare spawn odds) for tigons, cross fox, pink champagne fox, chimera puma, and Maltese lynx

[]50 for glacier Kermode black bear, spotted lion, and platinum fox

[]100 for female cattalo and male European bison cattalo

[]150 for erythristic/red raccoon, glacier blue black bear, and orange gator

[]200 for male plains bison cattalo and silver fox

There are some animals that have different odds than vanilla, but the reason for that is in vanilla they do not spawn at all:
    • []20 for ghost jackal, mocha moose, Fantasma/Orgo/Sombra Iberian wolves, and boss albino Eurasian brown bear

These odds are based relatively on research into each animal and their actual populations in real life. If you're curious about a particular animal, some reasons below are:

[]Tigons do not happen in the wild and are extremely rare due to the differences in habitat of lions and tigers. Spotted lions, or leopons, can happen in the wild but are extremely unlikely to. This possibility resulted in me giving slightly better odds.

[*]Cattalo exist between both plains bison and European bison, but it is significantly harder to get European bison to mate with domestic cattle and much less common for people to attempt to make hybrids with European bison, thus their odds are halved in comparison to the
