A lightweight immersion and quality-of-life overhaul for theHunter: Call of the Wild that focuses on making the hunting experience feel more grounded, intentional, and believable—without turning the game into a grind or an arcade shooter.

🔭 Clean Optics

Scope lenses are always clean.

A well-maintained rifle is part of responsible hunting. There’s no gameplay reason to simulate dirty optics when the hunter is assumed to care for their equipment between outings.

🎯 Rebalanced Weapon Handling

Weapon sway has been adjusted to better reflect a trained and experienced hunter.

The intent is not to remove challenge, but to reduce exaggerated instability and reward proper shooting positions.

🎒 Backpack Rework

Backpacks now offer clearer trade-offs between capacity, stealth, and mobility.

Small +3 Weight, 0 Noise, 0 Visibility

Medium +6 Weight, 3 Noise, 2 Visibility

Large +9 Weight, 5 Noise, 4 Visibility

Larger packs allow for more gear at the cost of increased sound and visibility, making loadout choices more meaningful.

💰 Reduced Equipment Costs

Selected store items are now more affordable:

😴 Resting Cost Adjusted

Resting at tents and lodges now costs $1.

Since the game applies the same pricing logic to both tents and lodges, this change normalizes the system to better reflect the idea of resting in your own equipment in the field.

🎯 Design Philosophy

This mod is built around a simple idea:

A skilled, prepared hunter should not be fighting artificial friction.Equipment is maintained. Shooting stability reflects training. Loadouts are a meaningful trade-off rather than a punishment. And basic field rest is treated as a minimal cost rather than a financial burden.

The goal is not realism for its own sake—it’s coherent gameplay grounded in believable assumptions.

⚙️ Compatibility

This mod edits gameplay, economy, and equipment balance values. If another mod modifies the same files, the last loaded mod will take priority.

For best results, use alongside progression or economy mods that do not alter weapon handling or equipment systems.

🧭 Final Note

This is a modular overhaul by design. Each change is intentionally scoped so players can combine it with other gameplay or economy mods without breaking balance or identity.

Installation instructions

Vortex download has been removed due to an issue where Vortex is not downloading the all the files, but sets the .bin files to 0 bytes.

MANUAL INSTALLATION

1. Download and extract the zip file

2. Inside you will find a folder called dropzone

3. Navigate to your theHunter: Call of the Wild installation folder

— Steam users: right-click the game in your library → Manage → Browse local files

4. Copy the dropzone folder into the root of the game installation folder (the same folder that contains the .exe)

5. If asked to merge folders, click Yes

6. Launch the game

TO UNINSTALL

— Manual: delete:

/dropzone/settings/hp_settings/equipment_data.bin, equipment_stats_ui.bin, resting_data.bin

/dropzone/models/hp_sights/lenses/texture

/dropzone/editor/entities/hp_characters/main_characters
