📋 About This Mod

Brightens up dark corners and improves visibility while keeping the original atmosphere intact.

About this Mod

I found the game's lighting a bit too dark in many areas, so I worked with Google Gemini for several hours to create this balanced Engine.ini fix. It improves visibility and shadow intensity without washing out the colors or ruining the atmosphere.

This was tested on Linux (Garuda) and should work on Steam Deck and Windows as well.

What it changes:

  • []Better Lighting: Adjusts Skylight and Mid-tones to fill pitch-black corners.[/]

[]Clearer View: Reduces heavy Ambient Occlusion and Fog Density.[/]

[]Stability: Tweaks Eye Adaptation for a more consistent brightness.[/]

Global Accessibility (40+3 Languages)

I wanted this fix to be accessible to as many people as possible. To achieve this, I spent five hours in a collaborative session with Google Gemini, carefully translating my original German instructions into 40 major languages plus 3 bonus languages.

Each language has its own dedicated Text file to ensure the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

You can find the full list of supported languages (from Arabic to Vietnamese) in the included "00 - Overview" file.

Installation

  • []Safety first: Create a backup of your original "Engine.ini"

    []Open it.

[]Edit: Paste the following block at the very end of the file and save:

    r. SkylightIntensityMultiplier=2. 5

    r. AmbientOcclusionLevels=0

    r. Color. Mid=0. 8

    r. Tonemapper. Gamma=2. 2

    r. EyeAdaptationQuality=1

    r. EyeAdaptation. LensAttenuation=0. 45

    r. Exposure. Fixed=1. 2

    r. FogDensity=0. 5[/]

[]Enjoy: Start the game and see if the darkness has lifted!

Detailed Instructions: For exact file paths and a detailed explanation of what each setting does, please check the instruction files in the download section. They are available in 40+3 languages to ensure everyone can use this fix safely.

Technical Note:

After a tip from elejdeath and some further testing, it turns out that the following three values have no effect in the game and are ignored by the engine. Since I'm too lazy to rewrite and re-upload all 43 files, and these lines don't do any harm anyway, you can simply ignore them:

r. Tonemapper. Gamma=2. 2

r. Exposure. Fixed=1. 2

r. FogDensity=0. 5

The visual improvements come from the other settings in the file. Thanks for understanding.
