Ki-Adi-Mundi was a Force-sensitive Cerean male Jedi Master and member of the Jedi High Council during the last decades of the Galactic Republic. Following the outbreak of the Clone Wars after the First Battle of Geonosis, Mundi became a Jedi General of the Grand Army of the Republic. Like his Jedi colleagues, he led the Republic clone troopers against the Separatist Alliance forces in several battles across the galaxy, including the second campaign on Geonosis.

In 19 BBY, the third and final year of the war, the Republic was engaged in the Outer Rim Sieges, during which Mundi oversaw the Republic invasion of Mygeeto with the 21st Nova Corps under his command. During the invasion, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine—secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious—instructed the Grand Army clone soldiers to execute their Jedi leaders in accordance with Order 66, an act that resulted in the death of Mundi along with the majority of the Jedi Order.

Despite Mundi's death, his lightsaber endured many long years and eventually came into the possession of the collector Dok-Ondar, who recounted some elements of its past to a sergeant of the First Order.
