📋 About This Mod
Spyro slides around, jumps lower, and the Alpine Ridge wizards stop working above 30 FPS. Fixes those and more, so every framerate plays like 30 FPS. No FPS cap needed.
Spyro High FPS Gameplay Fixes
Play Spyro Reignited Trilogy at high framerates and have it play exactly like it does at 30 FPS: same jumps and glides, same stops, same charge, same camera, wizards that keep working, fire dragons you can actually hit, and a Buzz fight that works.
Disclaimer: AI-generated code
All of the code in this mod was written by AI (Claude Opus 5), under my direction. That includes the Lua mod itself and every tool used to investigate the bugs. My part was directing the work and testing everything in game.
The bugs were measured with frame-by-frame recordings of the game, and I tested the fixes in game at 30 FPS and at 144 FPS or higher (up to about 550 FPS). Even so, please keep in mind that no human wrote this code by hand. Bug reports are welcome in the Posts or Bugs tab.
What it fixes
Spyro Reignited Trilogy was made for 30 FPS. At higher framerates the game quietly plays differently:
-
[]Sliding: above about 80 FPS, Spyro keeps sliding slowly after you let go of the stick.[/]
[]Jump height: jumps and the hover at the end of a glide don't go as high, so some ledges and glides are out of reach.[/]
[]Speeding up: Spyro picks up speed unevenly, quicker in some directions and slower in others.[/]
[]Charge turning: Spyro swings wider in charge turns.[/]
[]Mouse charge steering: the same mouse movement turns a charging Spyro much less.[/]
[]Camera during charges: the camera falls further behind Spyro when he turns.[/]
[]Camera lock in charges: the camera can get stuck swinging slowly beside or behind a charging Spyro instead of locking on behind him. The game does this at every framerate, but at high framerates it happens far more easily.[/]
[]Charge dust: the dust cloud behind a charge is gone at 60 FPS and above.[/]
[]Wizards in Alpine Ridge: the wizards stop moving their stairs, doors and walkways after one spell.[/]
[]Fire dragons in Fireworks Factory: the dragons' body sections bunch up right behind the head, which makes them much harder to hit.[/]
[]Flame breath: long, thin flame streaks stick out of Spyro's flame, pointing straight up, sideways or diagonally.[/]
[]Freed dragons (Spyro 1): after touching a dragon statue, Spyro starts his walk up to the dragon late and walks too slowly at very high framerates (~500 FPS), so he barely gets there.[/]
[]Glide distance: a glide goes up to 1% further or shorter depending on which way Spyro faces.[/]
[]Glide start: a glide pressed early in a jump starts while Spyro is still rising, so it starts lower and ends shorter.[/]
[]Walls: Spyro can get stuck against a wall or pole he's charging or running along, crawling or stopping dead until he turns away.[/]
[]Balloonist (Spyro 1): as the loading screen after a balloon ride ends, the camera whirls around the balloon instead of drifting slowly.[/]
[]Buzz (Spyro 3 boss): his running attack often plays the run animation without moving, and after his rolling attack he can keep sliding.[/]
[]Sheila in the Buzz fight: she stands still or crawls between her spots, so she can be on the far side of the arena when it's time to stomp Buzz.[/]
At 30 FPS the mod changes nothing, except the camera lock fix, which fixes a bug the game also has at 30 FPS.
Before and after
Every number below was recorded in game with a frame-by-frame logger, at 30 FPS and at a high framerate (144 FPS unless stated) with and without the mod. The goal is for the high framerate with the mod to match 30 FPS.
Sliding
How long Spyro takes to stop after you let go of the stick:
-
[]30 FPS: under 0. 2 seconds[/]
[]144 FPS without the mod: seconds, or until something stops him[/]
[]144 FPS with the mod: 0. 1 to 0. 2 seconds[/]
Jump height
How high each jump peaks (game units):
[]Full jump: 30 FPS 84. 6 · without the mod 79. 7 · with the mod 84. 7[/]
[]Charge jump: 30 FPS 74. 5 · without the mod 68. 7 to 70. 4 · with the mod 74. 6[/]
[*]Hover at the end of a glide: 30 FPS 48. 9 · without the mod 42. 5 · with the mod 49. 0[/c
