ForestTalk turns Kelvin and Virginia into real companions, not silent bots you just watch.

📥 Installation

• []Download and install RedLoader (the Sons of the Forest modloader).[/]

  []Installing it generates a Mods folder inside your game installation.[/]

  []Place ForestTalk inside that Mods folder.[/]

  []Launch the game, open RedLoader's mods menu, and set up your AI provider from ForestTalk's settings.[/]

  💬 How to talk to them

  With Kelvin, open his notepad and press T to type. You can also press O while nearby and looking at him, no need to open the notepad.

  Virginia works the same way: get close, look at her, and press O to talk, if she's willing.

  🧠 Kelvin, your companion

  I put a lot of effort into making him aware of his surroundings: nearby danger, your state, the weather, what he's currently doing. This mod assumes the crash left him deaf, but he can still speak just fine.

  He's not a bot you click through anymore, he's your companion for the whole adventure, and he'll always have something to say. Warm personality, a bit shaken by what he's been through, with a strong moral compass against the forest's hostility.

  You can also give him real orders through chat:

  • []Bring logs, sticks, or other materials[/]

    []Repair the camp[/]

    []Build a fire[/]

    []Stay put or hide[/]

    []Follow you[/]

    These aren't just flavor lines, they're real in-game orders Kelvin actually carries out.

    🌿 Virginia, an independent soul

    Virginia can talk with you too, but on her own terms: she's a fully independent person. She can't be given orders and isn't part of any command system, she'll only chat with you if she feels like it in that moment.

    ⚠️ Real environmental awareness

    Both characters react to what's actually happening: nearby danger, injuries, whether you're hungry or thirsty, day or night, rain. I dug deep into the game's own code so this wouldn't just be a chat bolted on top, your companions genuinely react to what's really going on around them and with you.

    👀 Bonus: let them see what you see

    Type !look followed by your message (for example: !look what do you think of our base?) and a screenshot of your current view is sent along with your question, so Kelvin or Virginia can actually react to what's in front of you. It's a fun little extra, not something you need to use.

    Heads up: capturing the screenshot pauses the game for a split second while it's generated.

    Choose between several AI providers:

      You can also adjust how often they speak on their own, toggle their danger comments on or off, write custom notes to add your own flavor to their personality, and more, all from the mod's settings menu.
